I hate ironing

I really do. Thank the Lord for non-iron shirts, dresses, tops… the world is your non-iron oyster. As for the items that do crease, their fate in this house is to join the big pile in the airing cupboard. Yep, they keep piling up until there’s no room left — not even for a handkerchief.

That’s when I’m forced to iron.

I think ironing is one of the most underappreciated tasks in the world. You can spend 20 minutes ironing — let’s say, a shirt (I’m a bit slow, and with the TV on at night, even slower) — and then as soon as someone wears it, that’s it. All that effort gone in three seconds.

I seriously admire people who iron everything, even underwear. That’s a whole other level. Like my Aunty Betty, the tidiest person in my Colombian family.

She lives in Valledupar, the only town in the Colombian Caribbean region without a seaside. So when it’s hot, it’s really hot and with no sea breeze to cool things down. But 35 degrees isn’t a deterrent for a hot steam iron — my Aunty Betty just gets on with it.

I could tell you so many lovely things about my Aunty, like how she somehow manages to keep her garden pristine and cool, even in the midday heat. She should have her own garden centre…

However, let’s not get distracted — the main reason for this post is the photo below.

I’m always inspired by the messages I see out and about — the real campaigns that make us stop and read, beyond our LinkedIn bubble.

“I hate red lights.” Fresh laundry winging its way to your door. Haha, love it.

Isn’t it great when brands speak like us? I did a bit of research and found out more about the campaign and the company behind it.

A beautiful, simple message that really resonates (with me). Let’s give them a round of applause and full credit:

Agency: Afterhours Studio (not sure if they’re still operating — link isn’t working, buuu)

And a round of applause for my Aunty Betty and her love for ironing!
